Collaboration with Heart to Heart Theatre

I have recently been collaborating with Heart to Heart Theatre, a London-based production company who specialise in thought-provoking and engaging performances about human nature and pressing social issues. As an academic consultant I have been involved in the research and design of two of their performances, How We Think We Think and AI Love You. A short extract from How We Think We Think can be seen here, featuring 'Tom', a London commuter who witnesses someone killing themselves and becomes obsessed with working out who they were and why they did it.

​Sutton Trust Summer School


In July 2015 I was a tutor for the University of Edinburgh's Sutton Trust Summer School, which provides underprivileged or disadvantaged school children with a taster experience of university life, with the aim of widening participation in higher education. The students were wonderful to work with, and engaged at a high level with some difficult philosophical subjects, including the nature of moral truths, free will, climate ethics, and time travel.  





​Philosophy Think Tank

In November 2014 I was one of eight young philosophers selected by the University of Edinburgh to "showcase their exciting and thought provoking research". Here you can see a recording of the public talk I gave, which was well received and sparked some interesting discussion. In preparation for the talks we took part in a training workshop led by Laura Pasetti, a talented actor, director, and public speaking coach.

Philosophy in the Playground

In March 2014 I helped Dr. Suilin Lavelle deliver a public talk and discussion seminar aimed at parents with young children. Childcare provision was provided in the same room that the event took place in, allowing the parents to engage in philosophical discussion without having to worry about who was looking after their children. Our session was focused on the topic of interpersonal understanding, and in particular the different ways that people understand one another's thoughts and feelings. It was particularly interesting having this discussion with a group of parents, as they were able to reflect on their children's developing understanding of other people, and how that might inform the scientific study of interpersonal understanding.
